Obeying God is loving God. When Jesus said if you love me you will do what I say, (John 14:23) He meant what He said. This brings new light to the scripture found in Romans 8:28. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
When anything bad happens to us most Christians quote just part of this verse. They will say, “well, all things work together for the good”. Too many in the body of Christ have what I’ve heard called a “no fault religion”. No matter what happens to them it wasn’t their fault. It was either God’s will or an attack from the enemy.
But in the light of John 14:23 you can see what the Holy Spirit is saying in Romans 8:28. And we know that all things work together for good to those who obey God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. The devil can’t just come into our lives and do anything he wants to do. If he has as much power as many Christians think he does then he would have prevented us from receiving Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
But you made the decision to accept Jesus and he could not stop you. Usually when the devil has gotten into our lives, it is a result of not obeying God. We have gotten out of His umbrella of protection by not walking in love. John 16:13 says, “13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come”.
The Holy Spirit is always trying to show us what is around the corner. He knows what the devil is up to. He shows us when we are about to miss it, and our own re-created spirit condemns us when we have missed it. And when we confess our sin He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
Let’s not be quick to point the finger when things go wrong. First of all we need to get in the presence of God and let Him show us where we may have missed it. We probably already know if we would just be honest with ourselves. We felt the gentle witness of the Holy Spirit before we ever made a mistake. The Holy Spirit is a genius. If we will just hear and obey He will guide us and we will look pretty smart too. He will guide us into all truth.
