The Correction of Love Pt. 1

CORRECTION IS GOOD

Hebrews 12:5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

Too many times the term “chastening of the Lord” is viewed in a negative connotation. The definition for chastening here is “disciplinary correction”. And here in Hebrews the Holy Spirit is telling us not to despise this correction. When you come across the word despise in the Bible it simply means to fail to acknowledge or appreciate something; or to make light of something. Have you been corrected by the Lord lately? Well don't take it lightly!

Some people won't even take any correction. They don't feel they need any correction. The Lord has been trying to correct them in a certain area but they don't even realize it. So when things are going wrong in their life as far as they are concerned it is an attack of the enemy. So they go into what they think is spiritual warfare when really its just flesh.

But if they would just hear the correction of the Lord they would not be in this situation to begin with. Most of the time we just need slight corrections. When you drive your car you are constantly making slight corrections with the steering wheel. If you don't you will get way of course.

Correction is a manifestation of the love of God! We need small corrections daily. There are times in life when we need radical corrections. The Lord corrects us by His Spirit and He corrects us through people. People think they're resisting people when so many times they don't realize they are despising God's correction.

Remember in the Old Testament how the Israelites murmured against Moses. Well they thought they were murmuring against Moses but God said they are murmuring against Me. We must be very watchful of how we treat those who have been put in authority over us. If you feel that no one is supposed to be over you then you are in more trouble than you think.

Hebrews 13:7-8 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Many are not in God's will because they won't take correction. We live in an emotionally immature, weak, whiny baby society. Even in the Body of Christ it has gotten this way. Too many people can't receive correction. If they get corrected they'll call it verbal abuse. At the same time you've got leadership who abuse the position of leadership. We will dig deeper into all of this in the next articles.

I”ll end this article with this thought. In order to really hear from God you must be willing to hear a no about something you think you want to do. If you will take His correction in your life you will stay in His perfect will. Get in the secret place with Him and let Him talk to you. If He corrects you then you know for certain that He loves you!
